The Airport Historian
This site is under development supporting a book being written detailing the history of every airport and landing field in the United States that has ever received scheduled commercial airline service. To date, over 1,775 airports in the Continental United States have been identified along with 29 in Hawaii and a countless number in Alaska (only 100 Alaskan airports will be detailed; airports known to have received scheduled service utilizing DC-3 aircraft or larger).
Every land plane airport will be summarized with the same amount of attention given to Las Vegas (New Mexico - 2 airports) as is given to Las Vegas (Nevada - 5 airports). This book will also detail airports serving the likes of London (Kentucky), Paris (Texas), Rome (Georgia) and Cairo (Illinois).
What will not be included are seaplane bases, heliports and airports that have only received service that was not made available to the general public such as corporate airlines and subscription-based air service.
More content to this site will be added as time permits.

Of particular interest are photos that can be used in the book which have written permission from the copyright holder. It is envisioned that the book will be black and white and not use colored photography.
